On Christmas Eve, thoughts turn to the Virgin Birth, Immanuel (God with us), Incarnation, the Immaculate Conception (Mary conceived without sin), and the Magnificat. Scientists in China have announced different kind of virgin birth.
Main point: “Scientists in China created an AI robot system that cares for human embryos growing in artificial wombs…They claim the new robot-assisted artificial womb is a safer and more efficient method for growing embryos than a natural womb, though no human trials have been conducted so far.”
More about it:
- The scientists described how they would “rank embryos based on their development potential.”
- “…the researchers’ system is very much in the concept phase, and then there is the fact that they likely wouldn’t be cleared for human trials given laws on experimenting with human fetuses. “
Why it matters:
- The obvious question involves the ethics of it all because “China does have somewhat of a track record for controversial experiments.”
- Young people thinking about their calling need to decide certain things ahead of time so they don’t go down a path fraught with moral hazard.
