Mark Tapscott of HillFaith dropped in on us via Zoom on 2/25 to tell us about his ministry to Capitol Hill staff. Among other things, he leads a Monday fellowship of staff and aides from the Senate and Congress that meets by the Supreme Court building.
Some notes from the Zoom call that included a great Q&A session:
- How people regard the gospel: 1/3 are Christian, 1/3 are aware of the gospel, and 1/3 are hostile to the gospel. Does this ratio mirror what you experience?
- Listen to other and be curious about the other person.
- You can’t argue someone into faith – focus on the process, and leave the outcome to God.
- Apologetics helps show the reasonableness of Christianity.
- Cold Case Christianity by J Warner Wallace.
- More than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell.
- Ultimate Engineering by Stuart Burgess
- 8 questions Christians are most afraid of being asked:
- How can a good God allow evil to exist? (The problem of evil/suffering).
- Is Christ truly the only way to God? (The issue of exclusivity/non-Christians).
- How can we trust the Bible is true? (Reliability of Scripture).
- Why does God remain hidden? (The question of divine silence or lack of evidence).
- Are miracles truly possible? (Scientific objection to the supernatural).
- How can science and the Bible be reconciled? (Specifically regarding evolution).
- Is Christianity against diversity? (Challenges regarding modern cultural values).
- What happens to people who have never heard the Gospel?
The University of Alabama Christian Faculty and Staff Fellowship meets on Wednesdays at 11:45 AM in the Chapel of the Baptist Campus Ministries Building (403 University Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401) at 4th Avenue and University Boulevard.
